'OZZY OSBOURNE Of Wolverhampton' Jailed For Decapitating Bird
July 18, 2005The U.K.'s Telegraph.co.uk has issued the following report:
A man who decapitated his parrot during a drunken rage was jailed for five-and-a-half months yesterday after a magistrate called him "the Ozzy Osbourne of Wolverhampton."
Paul Pugh, 39, pleaded guilty to twisting off the head of the Senegal parrot during a row with his wife. He was banned from keeping an animal for the rest of his life.
District Judge Shamim Qureshi said: "The parrot had no chance of fleeing.
"You proceeded to kill the bird in front of your wife and child and it was a disgusting incident for anyone to witness. This has all the hallmarks of pop stars on stage. You are what might be described as the Ozzy Osbourne of Wolverhampton for the way you have treated this bird."
He ordered Pugh to serve four months for causing unnecessary suffering to the parrot and a further six weeks of a previous sentence from which he was released on licence.
An RSPCA spokesman welcomed the verdict at Wolverhampton magistrates' court.
"This incident was horrific. Parrots are very sensitive creatures. It must have been terrified."
